Jicin is picturesque, historical - but also modern and dynamic. Every of these but many other attributes describe 17-thousand town of Jicin. Due to its location in beautiful surroundings of local upland, it is often called the gateway to the Český Ráj. Along with not so distant Krkonoše, Jičín is the second most important tourist area of Bohemia.

Since the end of the 19th century, tourists have been visiting Český Ráj for its history, fairy tales and beautiful nature.

First mention this originally royal town dates in 1293.

After 1337, it was in possession of several significant kins  - Vartenbers, Trcka of Lípa, Smiřických from Smiřice. A wooden provincial town originally, underwent the major conversion in time of dominion and politics of Vaclav Albrecht of Valdstejn of Eusebia, in the beginning of 17th century.

Jicin can proudly offer rare complex of high-preserved historical monuments of a great artistic value, especially the historical core of the town - the beautiful square with arcades decorated with baroque castle and connecting with jewel of the church of Jakuba Většího. From Valdická Brána, as the dominant, can be seen the entire town with its churches and the Jesuit College. Integral part of landscape composition, simply unique for its time, is Valdštejnská lodžie folly with park of Libosad, which is by the four-rowed alley joined with the town center.

Many visitors are attracted not only to the town itself, but also the whole organized spectrum of cultural and sport events. Regional Museum and Gallery offer extensive collections and original interactive exhibition – Muzeum Hry. The newly reconstructed synagogue is opened for the public.

Children are attracted mainly to the place of Rumcajs‘, the chamar. This is a reminiscent of a clever robber from the favorite fairy tale.

Cultural events in Valdštejn loggia breathe with unique atmosphere - exhibitions, concerts and traditional is the celebration of the Midsummer night. In late of May, the city returns to the Middle Ages in the biennial Valdštejn days. The Festival Jicin-Město pohádek (Town of Fairy Tales) is one of the reasons, why the term fairy Jicin is generally and rightfully used, because the town is.
Jicin is highly above standard in base of sports. Visitors of the town can spend their leisure time actively and everyone finds here any active form of entertainment and relaxation. The sports complex with a newly renovated aqua-center is available to the public, along with all kinds of sports facilities and children's playgrounds, bowling alleys, golf tees or fitness center.
