Tábor Hill
There are not many observation towers in the true sense of the word in the Bohemian Paradise, but Tábor deserves a mention.
Tábor, a hill situated about 8 kilometres north of Jičín, has the 35-metre-high Tichánek’s Observation Tower (Tichánkova rozhledna) on top. The hill-top also boasts the baroque Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord and a tourist cottage. When coming from the direction of Lomnice nad Popelkou, a series of little brick shrines marks the stations of the cross, starting at the Cross (Křížovka) well.
Getting to the observation tower requires a 20 CZK fee at the self-serve ticket barrier, so do not forget to take a 20-crown coin with you. A little gem of a lookout sits about a kilometre from Tábor – the neo-gothic Allain’s Tower. It has previously served as a luxurious high-seat and as storage of feed for game, but it has been turned into a romantic lookout.
